Bathroom​

• Quick and Easy Way to Clean Toilet Bowls – Don’t pour bowl cleaner directly into the bowl, the water will dilute the chemical. Thrust a soft bowl brush into the throat of the toilet several times to force the water out of the bowl. Apply bowl cleaner to the bowl brush swab and mop all around the inside of the bowl. Let the chemical sit a few minutes to do its work, then flush.

• To Clean Rust Stains – Pour lemon juice on rust stain and let sit for 1 hour. Rinse. If stain still remains, repeat process with white vinegar. You may have to repeat process more than once.

​

• Clogged Shower Heads – Can be cleaned by placing warm vinegar into a large plastic baggie. Place shower head into baggie, seal it and let sit overnight. Then use old toothbrush to remove mineral deposits. Rinse shower head with warm water.

​

• Caulking – Can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

 

Carpet Cleaning

 

One of the most important carpet cleaning tips!

FACT: Your carpet acts like a giant health filter, capturing dust, dirt, bacteria, pollen, dust mites, their waste, and the bacteria that feed on it. Daily vacuuming does not kill bacteria. The EPA has found that professionally cleaning your carpet gets carpets 1,500 percent cleaner than vacuuming every day.

You must use the steaming hot water method used by professional carpet cleaning companies. Please call us for a free estimate. Just like you clean or change your air conditioner filters, you also need to clean your carpets, which is a filter too.

Other tips:

• Gum – Freeze it with an ice cube, then use a dull knife to remove.

​

• For Spilled Wax on Carpets and Upholstery – put a brown paper bag over the dried wax and run a hot iron over it. The bag will absorb the hot wax.

​

• Spots on Carpets – Can often be removed with a dilution of one part vinegar, one-sixteenth part lemon juice and eight parts distilled water.

 

Floor

• Shine Up Your Wood Floors – Put a piece of waxed paper under your dust mop. Dirt will stick to the mop and the wax will shine your floors.

​

• Dried Wax on Wood Floors – Can be removed by softening the wax with a hair dryer, then removing with paper towels. Wipe away any remaining spots with a combination of vinegar and water.

​

• Black Scuff Marks – Rub with a paste of baking soda and water.

​

• Ceramic Floors – Wash ceramic floors with mixture of 1/4c. vinegar to 1 gal. water

​

• Linoleum Floors – For a shine between waxing on Linoleum floors, mop with ½ cup fabric softener and ½ bucket cold water.

​

Furniture & Upholstery

​​

• Pet Hair – To remove pet hair from upholstery, wear a wet a rubber glove and run your hand over it. The hair will cling to the glove. Rinse and repeat.

​

• Wine Stains – To remove wine stains in upholstery blot up stain with white cloth. Then lightly pour club soda on stain. If you don’t have club soda, spray shaving cream on the red wine stain, then lightly wet a cloth and sponge the stain.

​

• Odors – To remove odors from drawers, sprinkle some ground coffee into it, and leave overnight. Alternatively, use baking soda or cat litter and leave in the drawer for several days.

​

• Water Rings – To remove water rings from wood furniture you can apply mayonnaise over the water ring and leave overnight, wipe off with a soft dry cloth. Another idea is to apply a paste of cooking oil and salt, wait 15 minutes, then wipe off and polish.

​

• Cleaning Leather Upholstery – Try baby laundry detergent with water.  Use the suds only and rub them into the leather.

​

• Polishing Leather Upholstery – To keep leather upholstery looking good, polish it with a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water.

​

• Marker Stains – To remove marker stains on upholstery, spray hair spray onto a cloth and blot stain to remove it. DO NOT spray hair spray onto the upholstery, it will soak in and leave another stain.

 

Tile and Grout

• To Clean Grout – make a paste of peroxide and baking soda. Apply to grout with a toothbrush. Let paste sit for one hour.

​

• To Sanitize Grout – rub bleach on the grout with a toothbrush. Wash with a mixture of 1/4c vinegar to 1 gal. water.

 

Kitchen

​​

• Clean Stains on Marble – To clean stains on marble, sprinkle salt on a fresh cut lemon. Rub very lightly over stain. Do not rub hard or you will ruin the polished surface. Wash off with soap and water.

​

• Microwave – To clean the microwave, use a sponge dipped in a mild solution of water and baking soda.

​

• Garbage Disposal – To clean garbage disposal; turn on, pour in a cup of vinegar, then run cold water for a few minutes.  Occasionally run the motor, to agitate the solution.

​

• Deodorize Refrigerators – To deodorize refrigerators, simply place an open baking soda box in the back of refrigerator.  Replace with a fresh box every month. Recycle old baking soda by pouring contents down the drain to help maintain your plumbing.

 

Spot Removal

• Heel Marks – Use a pencil eraser to rub them off.

​

• Crayon Marks – Can be removed from painted walls by scrubbing with toothpaste or an ammonia-soaked cloth. Rinse very lightly and dry.

​

• Oil Stains – Dab the stain lightly with a white cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol. Do not rub hard. Rub from the outside edge of the area and work inward to remove the stain.

​

• Red Wine Stains – Rinse with cold water and blot with white cotton cloth until stain lifts. Repeat as needed. Apply baking soda and water mixture and allow to sit for 15 minutes before vacuuming up.

​

• Lipstick Stains – Apply liquid dish washing soap – preferably one with a grease fighting formula – to a clean white cloth. Dab the stain and let sit for 10 minutes. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

​

• Spots on Window Sills – Rub the surface with a clean rag and rubbing alcohol.

​

• General Fabric Stains – In a pinch, rub toothpaste into a stain, dry and rinse.

​

• Driveway Stains – Can be removed by pouring a large layer of kitty litter on the area, leave it for a day, apply strong solution of detergent and hot water, scrub well, and rinse.

​

 

Window & Glass​

​​

• To Clean Windows – Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with a gallon of water and dispense into a spray bottle. Squirt on, and then scrub with newspaper or coffee filter – not paper towels, which cause streaking.

​

• Remove Scratches from Glass – Toothpaste will remove small scratches from glass.

​

• Glass Table Tops – Clean with a little lemon juice, dry with paper towels, and polish with newspaper for a sparkling table.

​

• Sticker Goo – If the sticker goo is left on glass or mirrors, soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and let it soak in for 5 minutes.  Wipe with a dry cloth.

​

• Road Grime – Hydrogen peroxide on car windows will remove road grime.

​

• Water Stains – Water stains on windows caused by sprinkler systems can be removed by using a toilet bowl cleaner before you use your regular window washing solutions.
